Chevy Dashboard Lights & Their Meanings

The Chevy dashboard lights you may see during your drives in Amarillo communicate a wide range of information. Some icons simply mean that assistance features, such as Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), are active. Others, especially red-colored Chevy warning lights, indicate things that require immediate attention. Here are some common Chevy dashboard lights and what they mean:

  • Seatbelt Reminder: A red icon with one or more seatbelted passengers warns you that the driver and/or passengers need to fasten their seatbelt.
  • Airbag Readiness Light: A red symbol showing a passenger with an inflated airbag indicates an issue with the airbag system. Bring your vehicle in for service promptly.
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) Icon: This icon, with two road lines, is green when LKA is active and yellow when it detects you unintentionally leaving your lane. If the icon lights up white when starting your vehicle, LKA is inactive.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) Disabled Light: This yellow warning light means that AEB is not active and will not assist you until activated.
  • Pedestrian Ahead Indicator: This yellow pedestrian icon alerts you that a pedestrian has been detected ahead and that you should be prepared to stop for them.
  • Brake System Warning Light: If you see a red “BRAKE” light on your dashboard while driving, pull your vehicle over when it’s safe to do so. If the light remains, your brake system needs service, or your brake fluid may be low; immediate service is required.
  • Check Engine Light: Although it’s yellow, never ignore this light. The Check Engine Light may come on before any engine issues are noticeable to you, so it’s crucial to schedule service without delay.
  • Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light: This red icon of a thermometer with wavy lines is a serious warning that your vehicle is overheating. Pull over when it’s safe, and arrange for your vehicle to be towed to your dealer for service.
  • Charging System Light: If the red battery icon comes on and remains illuminated, there’s an issue with your vehicle’s electrical system; schedule service immediately.
  • Battery Fault Light: A red battery with an exclamation mark indicates an issue with the high-voltage battery system; schedule service immediately.

There are many additional dashboard lights beyond those listed above. If you see a light you’re unfamiliar with, feel free to call our service center at (806) 589-0016 for assistance.
