Chevrolet is ingrained in American culture, as an iconic brand and a trusted manufacturer of reliable trucks, SUVs, performance cars, and more. That said, it’s no surprise that Chevrolet has inspired countless music artists to either write songs about Chevrolet or release songs with Chevy in the lyrics.
The Group 1 Chevrolet Hub City team thought it would be fun to give you a short Chevy song playlist featuring our 5 favorite hits! Of course, there are many more songs about Chevrolet than what we’ll list below, so don’t hesitate to contact us to share some of your go-to tracks.
If you love listening to 1970s classics during your drives around Midland, Don McLean’s “American Pie” is probably the first that comes to mind when you think about songs with Chevy in the lyrics. “Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry” is easily one of the most quoted lines from the song’s beloved chorus.
Considered one of his top hits by Brad Paisley fans, 2003’s “Mud on the Tires” opens with the lyrics, “I’ve got some big news / The bank finally came through / And I’m holding the keys to a brand new Chevrolet.” The song speaks fondly of trying out the 4-wheel drive and getting “a little mud on the tires.” For many Amarillo drivers, there’s nothing more American—or more Chevrolet—than that.
There are plenty of songs about Chevrolet trucks, but let’s not forget the classic muscle cars that helped make the brand a household name. In this 1987 song featuring Blondie’s Debbie Harry, The Ramones sang about the iconic Chevy Camaro. With lyrics like “Girls, cars, sun, fun / Good times for everyone,” it’s the perfect upbeat summer road trip track.
Who doesn’t love a little Elton John during a long journey? “Crocodile Rock” is all about the early days of rock ‘n’ roll and pop culture at the time, as is exemplified by lyrics like, “Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own” and “Dreaming of my Chevy and my old blue jeans.”
Though they made multiple songs about cars, “409” by The Beach Boys belongs on this list of songs about Chevrolet. Released in the thick of America’s “hot rod craze,” the song pays homage to the Chevrolet 409 engine, a big-block V8 featured in classic cars like the early 60s Chevy Impala SS.
There are many other Chevy songs we could have included in this list, but there’s only so much time in a day! We hope you’ll be inspired to add some of our team’s top favorites to your playlist for cruising around Clovis, NM. If there’s a song you love that wasn’t mentioned here, stop by our dealership to let us know. We’re always happy to talk about all things Chevrolet!
