Gene Messer Chevrolet invites you to understand why your car or truck air conditioning is not working properly.
Your vehicle’s AC not working is most likely caused by a freon leak or a failing compressor. While these are the simple to spot reasons for the air-conditioning not working inside your car, it could also be anything as simple as a dirty cabin filter or a bad belt. No matter why or how, when you are expecting the relief of cold air it is extremely disappointing whenever it doesn’t come through. Don’t get in a panic, because our well-versed auto technicians know what to look for and are there to get your car ready long before the first heatwave hits.
The most likely reason the air-conditioner stopped cooling is because the car’s air-conditioning started leaking. Your car’s air-conditioner unit needs freon to cool the ambient air temperature which produces needed cold air. Anytime there is a freon leak on your car there is no way to cool the air. Another source for your AC not blowing cold air is because your car is a hybrid. The AC system is powered by the engine, meaning if your car is in EV mode then the engine will stop running and won’t power the AC.
If the AC is turned on and the fan isn’t blowing then you may have a defective AC fuse. Fuses protect vehicle components from a possible power surge and even though it might just need to get repaired, if your AC fuse keeps popping then it’s possible there could be a larger problem. There’s also a chance that the vehicle’s AC Compressor could be affected by a low amount of AC refrigerant or a possible leak that has to be looked at.
If you’ve noticed any damp spots in or around your vehicle recently, that might be because of an AC leak in your vehicle. For any AC to pump cold air into your car, it has to displace all of that moisture it’s used from outside and flows through the evaporator drain. Another cause could be the AC Refrigerant amount being too low which leads to a buildup of condensation because the evaporator coils will start to freeze. You need to keep a lookout for faulty seals in the air-conditioning compartment or the AC’s air filters just in case this problem keeps happening.
